Two Guys Are Sitting in a Pub — Then One of Them Says Something That Leaves Everyone Laughing!
Two friends walked into a pub expecting nothing more than a quiet evening, a couple of drinks, and some good conversation. But when one of them began talking about his marriage, the conversation took an unexpected turn that nobody in the pub would forget anytime soon.
It was a Friday evening, and the pub was crowded with people looking to relax after a long week. Some customers were watching football on the television, others were chatting with friends, and the bartender was busy serving drinks.
In the corner, two old friends, Mike and John, were sitting at a small wooden table, enjoying their beers.
They had known each other for more than twenty years and had shared countless stories about work, money, family, and relationships.
After taking a long sip of his beer, Mike leaned back in his chair and sighed.
“John, I have to tell you something. I’ve finally discovered the secret to a happy marriage.”
John nearly spilled his drink.
“You? A happy marriage? Last month, you told me your wife was so angry with you that she wouldn’t even look at you!”
Mike smiled confidently.
“Exactly! And that’s how I discovered the secret.”
John moved closer.
“All right, you’ve got my attention. Tell me everything.”
Mike placed his glass on the table and began explaining.
“You see, whenever my wife and I have an argument, I never shout. I never insult her, and I never try to win the argument.”
John nodded approvingly.
“That’s actually very good advice.”
Mike continued.
“Instead, I put on my coat, leave the house, and go for a long walk.”
John looked impressed.
“And that works?”
“Every single time,” Mike replied.
“But what happens when you get home?” John asked.
Mike grinned.
“By the time I return, she’s usually asleep, and I can enjoy a peaceful evening.”
John shook his head in amazement.
“Twenty years of marriage, and you never told me this? That’s incredible!”
Mike raised his glass.
“To peace, friendship, and knowing when to walk away!”
They clinked their glasses together.
But John wasn’t finished.
He sat quietly for a moment, thinking about his own marriage.
Then he suddenly smiled.
“Mike, I think I’ve got an even better solution.”
Mike raised an eyebrow.
“Oh, really? Let’s hear it.”
John leaned forward and lowered his voice.
“Whenever my wife and I argue, I simply agree with everything she says.”
Mike stared at him.
“Everything?”
“Everything!”
“But what if she’s wrong?”
John shrugged.
“I tell her she’s right.”
“And what if you know for a fact that she’s wrong?”
John took another sip of his beer.
“I tell her she’s right even more enthusiastically!”
Mike burst out laughing so loudly that several people at the neighboring tables turned around.
The bartender smiled while polishing a glass.
John, enjoying the attention, continued.
“You see, Mike, I’ve learned something important after thirty years of marriage. You can be right, or you can be happy. Sometimes, you have to choose.”
Mike wiped his eyes.
“That’s the wisest thing I’ve ever heard!”
Just then, John’s phone began ringing.
He glanced at the screen, and his smile immediately disappeared.
It was his wife.
Mike noticed the change in his friend’s expression.
“What’s wrong?”
John whispered, “It’s my wife. She told me to be home by eight o’clock, and it’s already half past nine.”
Mike checked his watch.
“Well, you just told me that agreeing with her is the secret to happiness. What’s the problem?”
John answered the phone nervously.
“Hello, darling!”
His wife’s voice was loud enough for Mike to hear.
“JOHN, WHERE ARE YOU?”
John swallowed hard.
“At the pub, sweetheart.”
“AND WHAT TIME DID I TELL YOU TO COME HOME?”
John looked at Mike, who was struggling not to laugh.
“Eight o’clock, darling.”
“AND WHAT TIME IS IT NOW?”
John closed his eyes.
“Half past nine, sweetheart.”
There was a brief silence.
Then his wife said, “GOOD. I’M GLAD YOU KNOW HOW TO TELL TIME. NOW GET HOME!”
John quickly replied, “Of course, darling. You’re absolutely right!”
He ended the call, grabbed his coat, and stood up.
Mike was laughing so hard that he could barely speak.
“Well, John, I guess your theory has just been tested!”
John shook his head.
“Don’t laugh, Mike. You’re coming home with me.”
Mike stopped laughing.
“What? Why?”
John smiled innocently.
“Because my wife specifically said she wanted to speak to both of us.”
Mike’s face went pale.
“But she doesn’t even know me!”
John patted him on the shoulder.
“Neither did I, when I first met her!”
The entire corner of the pub erupted in laughter.
Even the bartender couldn’t hold back a smile.
As the two friends walked toward the door, Mike turned to John and whispered, “One last question. After all these years, who’s really in charge of your marriage?”
John stopped, thought carefully for a moment, and answered proudly:
“My wife makes all the important decisions. I make all the unimportant decisions.”
Mike nodded.
“That sounds fair. Give me an example.”
John smiled.
“Well, my wife decides where we live, how we spend our money, where we go on vacation, and what we eat every day.”
Mike stared at him.
“And what do you decide?”
John straightened his jacket.
“I decide which football match to watch when she’s not home!”
Mike burst out laughing again.
“John, my friend, you haven’t just discovered the secret to a happy marriage. You’ve discovered how to survive one!”
The two men stepped into the night, still laughing, while the bartender shook his head and returned to work.
And somewhere in the pub, another husband quietly checked his phone to see whether his wife had called.
Because everyone knows that a night out with friends can be relaxing — right up until your phone starts ringing.
The Moral of the Story
