Why Are You Looking So Upset?
One day, a man was sitting on a park bench, looking absolutely miserable.
A friend happened to walk by and noticed his sad expression.
“Hey, buddy! Why are you looking so upset?” he asked.
The man sighed deeply.
“My wife hasn’t spoken to me for three days.”
His friend looked surprised.
“Three days? That’s terrible! What did you do?”
The man shook his head.
“That’s the problem. I have no idea!”
His friend sat beside him and tried to offer some advice.
“Well, maybe you should apologize. Sometimes, that’s all it takes.”
The man thought about it for a moment.
“But what if I apologize for the wrong thing?”
His friend shrugged.
“Then apologize for that, too!”
The man stared at him.
“You know, that’s actually not a bad idea.”
Just then, his phone rang. It was his wife.
He answered immediately.
“Hello, darling!”
His wife spoke in a cold voice.
“Are you still sitting in the park?”
“Yes, sweetheart.”
“And are you talking to your friend?”
“Yes, dear.”
“Good. Tell him to come home with you. I need someone to explain to you both why you were supposed to buy milk three days ago!”
The man slowly lowered the phone.
His friend looked at him.
“Well? What did she say?”
The man sighed.
“Apparently, we’re both in trouble now.”
His friend jumped up.
“Wait a minute! I don’t even know your wife!”
The man stood up and smiled sadly.
“Neither do I, when she’s angry!”
Moral of the story: Sometimes, the most dangerous question in the world is not “What did I do?” but “What did I forget to do?”
