What a tragedy! The whole country is mourning the passing.

Posted on August 3, 2026 By Aga Co No Comments on What a tragedy! The whole country is mourning the passing.

The doctor’s words sounded impossibly final.

The baby had severe complications, including absent kidneys and almost no amniotic fluid. The prognosis was devastating.

Lacey Buchanan and her husband, Chris, were told their son Ace was not expected to survive.

But they refused to allow a diagnosis to define every moment they still had with him.

Lacey continued carrying her baby, knowing that his life might be heartbreakingly brief.

For the family, the goal wasn’t pretending the medical reality didn’t exist.

It was making whatever time they received matter.

When Ace was finally born, the clock began immediately.

There would be no childhood photographs.

No first steps.

No first day of school.

Instead, his parents were given 99 minutes.

For those 99 minutes, Ace was held.

He was kissed.

His parents spoke to him, prayed over him, memorized his tiny features, and surrounded him with the love they had been carrying throughout the pregnancy.

Every minute became precious because everyone knew there might not be another.

Then came the goodbye no parent should ever have to make.

Ace died in his parents’ arms.

But his story didn’t disappear with him.

A photograph documenting those precious moments began reaching people far beyond the family.

Parents who had experienced pregnancy and infant loss recognized something familiar in it.

Not simply death.

Parenthood.

Because Ace hadn’t been merely a diagnosis written on a medical chart.

He had been their son.

His brief life also inspired his family to help other parents facing devastating prenatal diagnoses and infant loss.

Through charitable work associated with Ace’s memory, the family supported efforts to provide hospitals with Cuddle Cots—specialized cooling equipment that can allow bereaved families additional time with a baby who has died.

That extra time can mean photographs.

Holding their child.

Introducing siblings or grandparents.

Or simply having a few more hours before saying goodbye.

The family has also advocated for greater support and compassion for parents navigating life-limiting prenatal diagnoses.

Ace never learned to walk.

He never spoke his first word.

He never celebrated a birthday.

His entire life lasted less than two hours.

Yet those 99 minutes became profoundly important to the people who loved him.

And his story carries a message that numbers alone struggle to express.

The length of a life and the impact of a life aren’t always the same thing.

Sometimes an entire lifetime of love can exist inside 99 minutes.
