An old farmer was hauling a load of manure when he was stopped by a state trooper. “You were speeding,” the officer said. “I’m going to have to give you a ticket.”
“Yep,” said the farmer as he watched the trooper shoo away several flies buzzing around the load.
“These flies are terrible,” complained the officer.
“Yep,” said the farmer. “They’re circle flies.”
“What’s a circle fly?” asked the officer.
“The flies that circle a horse’s rear,” replied the farmer. “Those are circle flies.”
“You’re not calling me a horse’s rear, are you?” the officer asked angrily.
“Nope,” said the farmer calmly. “But you just can’t fool those flies. They know who’s who.”
The officer frowned for a moment, then had to move on, while the farmer chuckled to himself, amused at how nature leaves no room for deceit.
Meanwhile, a young boy named Jacob sat at his desk in class, thinking up tricky questions for his teacher. He was known at school for making people laugh with his clever, unexpected riddles. One day, seeing his teacher walk past, Jacob couldn’t contain his curiosity.
“Teacher,” he said, “how do you put an elephant in the fridge?”
The teacher smiled nervously and said, “I don’t know, how?”
“You just open the door and put it in there!” said Jacob, grinning at himself.
But he didn’t stop there. Watching her reaction, he asked again: “And how do you put a giraffe in the fridge?”
The teacher thought for a moment and said, “Oh, I know this one! You open the door and put it in there, right?”
Jacob shook his head. “No! You have to open the door, take out the elephant, and then put the giraffe in!”
Then he asked another surprising question: “All the animals went to the lion’s birthday party except one. Which one was it?”
The teacher, now confused, replied, “The lion?”
“No,” said Jacob with a sly smile. “The giraffe, because it’s still in the fridge!”
But the questions didn’t stop. He looked at the teacher and asked: “If there’s a river full of alligators and you want to cross it, how would you do it?”
The teacher thought quickly and said, “I’d walk over the bridge.”
Jacob’s face lit up. “No! You’d swim across, because all the alligators are at the lion’s birthday party!”
The teacher laughed so hard that the whole classroom erupted into giggles. The other students were amazed at how Jacob’s imagination could turn ordinary questions into adventures filled with humor and surprise.
