By revoking direct deposit, they claim they are holding those members accountable for choosing political theater over legislative duty.
Critics, however, see the action as an intimidation tactic designed to shame and pressure minority-party lawmakers into surrendering their protest. They argue that withholding pay is a retaliatory measure that undermines democratic dissent and weaponizes financial hardship to force compliance.
Regardless of the interpretation, the message from the House is unmistakably clear:
As long as these lawmakers remain out of state, they will not be paid. If they want their checks, they must come home.
