FBI Releases Chilling Surveillance Images of Masked Figure Near Nancy Guthrie’s Home

New surveillance images and videos released Tuesday have cast a chilling new light on the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, mother of “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie. The footage shows a masked figure on her porch the night she vanished, as law enforcement and the family ramp up urgent calls for public help more than a week into the search.

Despite intensive investigation, authorities have yet to identify any suspects or persons of interest, and Nancy’s fate remains unknown. FBI Director Kash Patel shared the images on X, revealing what officials say is “an armed individual appearing to have tampered with the camera at Nancy Guthrie’s front door the morning of her disappearance.”

The video depicts the person wearing a backpack, long sleeves, and pants, approaching the door, covering the camera with a gloved hand, and then placing plants to block the view — a deliberate act to erase any trace.

Investigators had hoped security cameras would provide key evidence, but the doorbell camera was disconnected early Sunday, and while other software recorded movement minutes later, Nancy Guthrie’s inactive subscription meant the footage was lost, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos confirmed.

As the investigation unfolds, the messages from Savannah Guthrie and her family have shifted from cautious hope to desperation. Public pleas to whoever holds their mother have grown more urgent, and it remains unclear if any ransom notes demanding money were authentic or if any contact has been made with the alleged kidnappers.

Over the past week, the Guthries released a series of videos, each with a different tone. In the latest, Savannah appeared alone, her words somber:

“We are at an hour of desperation. We need your help.”

Authorities believe Nancy was forcibly taken from her home outside Tucson, last seen on January 31. DNA evidence confirmed blood on her porch belonged to her, and her doorbell camera was disabled in the early hours of Sunday, Sheriff Nanos said. She requires daily medication due to high blood pressure and heart issues, including a pacemaker.

Investigators have canvassed her neighborhood multiple times and plan to continue expanding the search while following new leads.

Three days after Nancy went missing, Savannah and her siblings made their first public appeal to the kidnappers, urging them to make contact. “Please reach out to us,” they said, emphasizing that proof their mother was alive was their priority. Subsequent messages underscored the family’s growing desperation, with Savannah calling on the public nationwide to remain alert:

“No matter where you are, even far from Tucson, if you see or hear anything, report it.”

Digital billboards featuring Nancy’s case have now appeared from Texas to California as the FBI works to gather tips.

“Someone out there has the one piece of information that can bring Nancy home,” said FBI spokesperson Connor Hagan. “We need them to come forward.”
