By her teens, Jennette had become her family’s main financial support. Fame came with intense pressure, scrutiny, and a sense that nothing she did was enough. Despite her cheerful on-screen persona, she struggled with anxiety, body image issues, and isolation. After her mother Debra passed away in 2010, Jennette sought therapy, which became essential in dealing with her struggles, including excessive drinking and unhealthy relationships.

The memoir revealed the invasive control her mother had over her life, including medical exams, restrictions on showering alone, and neglect in situations involving alcohol and modeling as a teenager.
