In Shawano County, Wisconsin, an unusual incident caught the attention of authorities and the media when a 10-year-old boy called 911 for help with his math homework. He was struggling with a simple math problem involving decimals and had no one else to ask for help at home. During his conversation with dispatcher Kim Krause, the boy asked for assistance, hoping to speak with someone who could help him with the task. When Krause realized this wasn’t an emergency, she decided to send an officer to the boy’s house to check the situation and offer him the assistance he was asking for.

Deputy Chase Mason from the Shawano County Sheriff’s Office responded to the call and went to the boy’s home. Mason, who was willing to help, took on the request and gave the boy some simple advice on solving his math problem. Although the deputy admitted that he wasn’t a math expert, he did his best to assist, explaining the problem in the simplest way possible and guiding the boy toward a correct solution.

At the end of the interaction, Deputy Mason advised the boy to use the non-emergency line for any future questions of a similar nature, explaining that 911 was for urgent situations only. He also gave him a business card as a way to stay in touch in case he needed further assistance. This moment highlighted the community support often provided by law enforcement, showing how they sometimes go beyond their official duties to help their citizens in various ways.

The incident gained attention and became known for the way law enforcement officers often go the extra mile to support their communities, even in situations where help may not be expected. In this case, not only did the officers offer support for a math problem, but they also emphasized the importance of using the proper channels for non-emergency communication.

The young boy and his family were grateful for the help they received, and this story became an example of the right actions taken by authorities who are always ready to assist, even in unexpected situations. Such events demonstrate that unexpected situations can arise, but there are always opportunities to do something good and help others.
