The infant’s death occurred early Monday in Jardim das Américas 2nd Stage, a neighborhood in Anápolis, approximately 55 kilometers from Goiânia. The circumstances have prompted an investigation as authorities work to establish exactly what happened during the final moments of the child’s life.
According to the account the father gave authorities, exhaustion overtook him while he was cradling his two-month-old child, causing the baby to fall. The account describes a tragic domestic incident, but investigators have not yet announced conclusions about the circumstances surrounding the death. Personnel from the Mobile Emergency Care Service, known as SAMU, arrived at the scene and confirmed that the child had already died.
The Forensic Medical Institute was subsequently notified, and the Military Police were informed as authorities began responding to the incident. The involvement of several agencies reflects the need to document what happened and determine whether the initial account is consistent with the available evidence.
Civil Police are now investigating the circumstances, interviewing relatives and potential witnesses in an effort to reconstruct the sequence of events. Investigators may need to establish where everyone was located, what occurred immediately before the fall, and whether anything else may have contributed to the infant’s death. Police chief Kênia Segantini has not publicly discussed specific details of the investigation.
