A professional lip reader believes she identified a revealing conversation between Melania Trump and President Donald Trump during King Charles and Queen Camilla’s recent state visit to the United States. According to her interpretation, the brief exchange suggested the First Lady was quietly reminding her husband to be mindful of his behavior while cameras were rolling.
The moment took place on the Truman Balcony, where Donald and Melania Trump stood alongside King Charles and Queen Camilla to watch a ceremonial military flyover. Television cameras captured the group throughout the event, leading lip-reading expert Nicola Hickling to analyze the interaction for *The Mirror*.
According to Hickling, Donald Trump appeared to make a remark that immediately drew a response from Melania. She believes the First Lady turned to her husband and said, “You’ve started now,” implying that he had already begun acting in a way she wanted to discourage.
Trump allegedly responded by saying, “What, bear with me?” seemingly questioning what she meant.
Without hesitation, Melania reportedly replied with a simple but direct instruction: “Act nice.”
Moments later, the conversation appeared to become more relaxed. Hickling claims Melania commented, “It’s a beautiful day,” to which Trump allegedly answered, “Yeah, I’m proud of all you’ve done.”
Although the exact wording cannot be independently verified, the alleged exchange quickly attracted attention online because it came during a visit already surrounded by discussion about Trump’s interactions with the British royals.
During the state visit, Trump generated headlines after several observers accused him of repeatedly breaking royal protocol. Reports suggested that he stepped ahead of King Charles and Queen Camilla on multiple occasions, behavior that critics argued failed to follow traditional etiquette expected during official royal events.
The incidents prompted reactions from a number of public figures, including musician Rod Stewart, who appeared to praise King Charles for remaining composed throughout the visit. Stewart also made headlines with comments that many interpreted as criticism of Trump’s conduct, suggesting the monarch had effectively put “that little ratbag in his place.”
The renewed attention surrounding Melania Trump also coincides with fresh claims made by former First Lady Jill Biden in her recently released memoir, *A View from the East Wing*.
In the book, Biden describes what she characterizes as an uncomfortable and unusually quiet limousine ride on the day of the presidential inauguration. She recalled sharing the vehicle with incoming First Lady Melania Trump as well as John Bessler, the husband of Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar.
According to Biden, Bessler attempted to make friendly conversation by asking Melania about Barron Trump’s plans for college. She wrote that Melania responded with only a single word—“NYU”—before turning her attention toward the window and pointing out clouds rather than continuing the discussion.
Biden said she later tried to keep the conversation going herself by mentioning military dogs standing outside in the cold weather. However, she claimed that effort also failed to generate much response, leaving the atmosphere inside the vehicle noticeably awkward.
Reflecting on the experience, Biden suggested she believed Melania’s distant demeanor may have been influenced by lingering frustration over the FBI search of Mar-a-Lago. According to Biden, she felt Melania blamed then-President Joe Biden personally for the investigation, despite the legal process being independent of presidential direction.
Even so, Biden wrote that she understood how upsetting such an experience could be.
“I have compassion for her, having been subject to the same kind of search,” Biden wrote in her memoir.
She continued by explaining that she knew firsthand how invasive it could feel to have investigators searching through personal belongings, adding, “I knew how distressing it was to have agents rummage through your underwear drawer.”
The reported balcony conversation and Biden’s newly published recollections have once again placed Melania Trump in the spotlight, offering two very different glimpses into the often private public role of the former First Lady while fueling continued discussion about the Trumps’ interactions during high-profile political and royal events.
