There was a lot of celebrity energy at the “American Idol” season finale, but everyone’s attention was soon drawn to their screens by Alicia Keys’s entrances. By the end of the evening, social media platforms were flooded with remarks, debates, praise, and criticism, all centered around the artist’s standout live performances.

Supporters expected Alicia Keys’ “American Idol” finale appearance to be particularly memorable even before she took the stage. But as soon as the figures were announced, the conversation quickly shifted from excitement to ongoing online debates.

The well-known TV singing competition advertised the artist’s involvement, calling her “A Major mentor,” and declared that she and the other competitors will perform twice in the final.

“A MAJOR mentor. @aliciakeys performs TWICE tonight at 8/7c on #americanidol!” was posted by “American Idol” on Instagram.

By showcasing her responsibilities as the evening’s special mentor and performer on her Instagram Story, Keys created even more anticipation. The colorful, neon-inspired image featured the artist with a sophisticated braided haircut, striking accessories, and a forward-thinking purple-and-blue theme that enhanced the finale’s opulent atmosphere.

Alicia Keys Joins the Finale’s Celebrity-Filled Roster According to reports from Billboard, Keys performed in the finale alongside Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie, Carrie Underwood, Brad Paisley, Jason Mraz, Tori Kelly, Nelly, and other well-known figures. Keys also served as a visiting mentor.

However, as soon as the segments started, spectators focused on Alicia’s live singing despite all the well-known guests.

The Performance That Started the Discussion During the big finale, Keys joined the Top 3 finalists to sing “Lovin U,” which was one of the most talked-about moments of the evening.

As soon as the performance was posted on YouTube, people began to comment on it, analyzing everything from the contestants’ interactions with the guest star to the quality of their singing. Additional video clips from the scene quickly went viral on TikTok, drawing more attention to the occasion.

While some fans praised Keys’s dominating stage presence and the song’s retro choices, others had more critical things to say about the live performance. “What happened to Alicia Keys [sic] voice??” someone on X asked. “Alicia Keys can’t even sing Alicia Keys, so what are we really doing?!” said another viewer.

“Alicia Key doesn’t need to coach nobody vocally,” said yet another observer. Only the keys. Please [sic]!

During the criticism, supporters defend Alicia Keys. But not all of the comments were negative. Many devoted followers supported Keys on Instagram and applauded the poignant message sent to the finalists.

One person wrote, “Alicia Keys is truly a wonderful human!” beneath an Instagram video of the performance. The sincere grin directed toward the rivals was crucial! “Love that album. @aliciakeys, my favorite, love her and her music ,” said another fan.

Nonetheless, a few compliments carried subtle allusions to the finalists’ skills. “Alicia wouldn’t win,” someone joked. Perhaps she would finish third in this bunch.

RAYE’s Guest Spot Encourages Further Conversation When footage of RAYE and Keys performing a duet of “Fallin'” in the finale began to appear on fan pages, the excitement increased. The collaboration was uploaded by a fan-focused X account, and it quickly became popular. Before long, opinions were widely divided as people evaluated the voice performances of both performers.

“I know it might be wrong to say, but Raye sounded better on this song than the original,” someone commented. “Alicia should have let RAYE take over the song,” another person said. It’s only appropriate. Meanwhile, another fan commented, “I love how grounded RAYE was here and didn’t try to outsing Alicia,” praising RAYE’s approach in the duo.

Whether you like them or not, one of the main themes of the entire finale was Keys. The musician was able to keep fans’ interest long after the show ended thanks to everything from the timeless song selections and unexpected collaborative performances to the constant barrage of social media comments.

Furthermore, it is evident that viewers are continually reliving those figures based on the numerous viral films that are still going viral.

Online groups hotly debated Keys’s choices during the “American Idol” finale, but in 2025, the singer gained notoriety for a much more personal issue: her endearing bond with her son Egypt.

On Tuesday, July 15, 2025, Keys gave her fans an exclusive glimpse of a sweet outing with her son Egypt. She honored her son with a heartfelt message that touched many viewers and shared a number of poignant photos on Instagram that showcased their close bond.

The artist’s son gives her a gentle peck on the cheek in one cozy and organic photo. She has a soft smile on her face, showing that she is totally focused and enjoying their time together.

Egypt is obviously taller than his mother in another picture taken beside the pool. Keys smiles as she puts a gentle hand on his arm and gives him a proud and affectionate gaze.

The mother and boy appear to be enjoying their time together as they smile at the camera in a colorful selfie. They appear relaxed as they take in the joy of their special evening while holding beverages.

“I’m so happy on mom-son date night!” Keys captioned the photo. “I can’t believe how intelligent, compassionate, and driven you have become as a young person. I am really proud of the young king you are growing into .

In response to the heartfelt tweet, fans praised Keys as a mother and made comments about Egypt’s height. “Oh your baby is taller than you are Alicia! I love it ,” an admirer remarked in jest.

Another commented, “This is so precious, I love seeing you as a mom!” after noticing the transformation. Additionally, Egypt is enormous. How did we get here? One response simply said, “Wow he is taller than you already,” expressing surprise at the passing of time.

“It’s amazing to have watched him grow and be more and more inspired by the beautiful connection you both share,” a follower wrote, highlighting the growth and friendship. God bless you and your family forever.

Keys often includes her family into her artistic endeavors. She and her husband, 46-year-old Swizz Beatz, have two kids, Egypt and Genesis, ages 10. She collaborated with 11-year-old Egypt on her double album “Keys” in 2021.

They wrote a rendition of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” a song that was very meaningful to them. Working on it together added even more significance to their bedtime ritual, which has been a regular part of it since Egypt was a baby.

Later, Keys described the event as an emotional turning point and showed great pleasure in his courage and readiness to take on the job. The soft, lullaby-like duet, which was released through Apple, symbolizes a treasured moment in both her career and parenting experiences.

Egypt developed a strong connection to music at a young age, which is not surprising given that both parents were active musicians.

According to Keys, her kid often goes on tour with them, seizing any opportunity to try out new instruments or sit at the drums. She has repeatedly been amazed by his innate musical sense and deliberate choices when performing.

“I’m listening to his decisions and his chords. He has always been associated with it, so it hasn’t come as a surprise. He frequently performs Bruno Mars and, I believe, Anderson. If Paak were to go on tour, she said, “I would definitely bring Egypt because I think it would open his mind to what’s possible.”

Keys’s skills and influence extend much beyond her family and have a strong influence on other musicians as well. She was presented the prestigious Dr. Dre Global Impact Award, which is given to singers who have made exceptional contributions to music and culture, during the 67th Annual Grammy Awards on February 2, 2025.

The award honored Keys’ long-standing impact on the industry and was presented by renowned performer and actress Queen Latifah. The “No One” singer smiled with gratitude as she collected the medal on stage and gave a heartfelt speech that recognized those closest to her.

She acknowledged her family’s unwavering support, saying, “My magnificent mother, who gave me life, my beautiful kids, Egypt, Genesis, KJ, Nicki, Nas, for sharing me with the world and to my brilliant husband, my soulmate and the ultimate dream weaver, Swizzy.”

“And most importantly, to every artist out here tonight, you are brilliant,” she said, pausing to encourage the other artists in attendance.

Keys exuded elegant dominance while donning a striking black and gold ensemble. Her head and face were accentuated by shimmering chandelier-style jewelry, which complemented the intricate gold designs on her outfit. She owned the occasion with her message and manner, sporting a bright red lip for contrast and a professional topknot.

In addition to being a personal accomplishment, Keys’s receipt of the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award was historic because she was the first female recipient of this prestigious honor.

The prize had only been given out twice before, to famous musician Jay-Z in 2024 and Dr. Dre in 2023. Keys has now joined this exclusive group of trailblazers.

Looking back on her career, Keys candidly talked about the challenges she faced in the music industry, particularly as a female producer. She said, “I always had to fight for a certain level of respect as a songwriter, a composer, and especially, a producer,” addressing a problem that many women in the industry face.

While highlighting the work of Patrice Rushen, Missy Elliott, Linda Perry, Grimes, and Solange Knowles, she questioned industry perceptions, questioning why women are not as readily recognized as producers on the magnitude of Quincy Jones or Dr. Dre.

She went on to dedicate her award to “all the ladies that know the magic that they bring to the room,” saying, “We stand together, so it’s a beautiful feeling to be acknowledged for the thing I always thought people didn’t really recognize about me.”

Keys took use of the occasion to discuss not only her personal opinions but also a broader issue: the increasing difficulties that diversity, equality, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives in the US are facing.

“The diversity of voices should not be silenced at this time. We’ve witnessed gifted, diligent individuals with a variety of backgrounds and perspectives on stage, and it has altered the game. She emphasized the importance of inclusiveness in creative professions, saying, “DEI is not a threat, it’s a gift—and the more voices, the more powerful the sound.”

Keys likened the resilience of artists and marginalized communities to the fabled phoenix rising from the ashes in her trademark lyrical style. She ended her speech with a heartfelt plea for “soul care,” urging continued support for compassion, empathy, and opportunities in the field.

Keys’s already stellar Grammy record is strengthened by this recent honor. She has continued to be a significant figure since her first Grammy appearance in 2002, when she won five awards, including Best New Artist and Song of the Year for “Fallin.”

Over her career, she has won 17 Grammy Awards in a variety of categories, including Best R&B Album and Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for her and Jay-Z’s “Empire State of Mind.” She has garnered 32 nominations.

Most recently, she won Best Musical Theater Album for the Broadway production of “Hell’s Kitchen,” which was inspired by her personal experiences.

Following the momentous occasion, Keys shared highlights of her incredible night at the 67th Grammy Awards on Instagram.

The musician posted a number of photos that highlighted important aspects of the evening, such as cozy family photos, informal moments with celebrities like Miley Cyrus and Beyoncé, and pictures of her Dr. Dre Global Impact Award.

Keys chose a succinct yet insightful caption to express her gratitude and amazement. “Whoa! “What a night. ✨✨✨ ✨✨✨,” the celebrity wrote, letting the images do the rest.

Keys constantly offers fans lots to talk about, whether it’s through live TV, cherishing family milestones, or making advances at the Grammy Awards. Additionally, the artist continues to be just as captivating based on the continuous replies on the internet.
