According to a recent Hollywood report, actress Angelina Jolie is reportedly planning to leave the United States, citing conflicts between her progressive beliefs and the current political climate under President Donald Trump. Sources suggest she intends to wait until her youngest children, twins Vivienne and Knox, reach adulthood before making any move.
Jolie is not alone in this pattern among celebrities critical of Trump. Others, such as Rosie O’Donnell, famously relocated to Ireland in 2025, while Ellen DeGeneres moved to a residence in England, each citing political and personal reasons for leaving the country. Jolie, for her part, is now considering a similar step.
Reports from People indicate that Jolie “never wanted to live in Los Angeles full-time,” but custody agreements with her former husband, Brad Pitt, required her to remain in the city. Once all six of her children are adults—the twins turning 18 on July 12—she will have greater freedom to relocate. According to an insider, Jolie has a few international destinations in mind but primarily wants to leave Los Angeles. “She’ll be very happy when she’s able to leave Los Angeles,” the source said.
Jolie herself addressed her intentions during the San Sebastián Film Festival in Spain in September, as reported by Variety. She remarked that she no longer “recognizes” America, adding, “I love my country, but at this time, I don’t recognize my country.” She also reflected on her global perspective: “I’ve always lived internationally—my family is international, my friends, my life… My worldview is equal, united, and international. Anything anywhere that divides or limits personal expression and freedom, I think, is very dangerous.”
The actress stressed the seriousness of the current political climate, saying, “These are such serious times that we have to be careful not to say things casually. These are very, very heavy times we are living in together.”
Earlier, in 2024, she told The Hollywood Reporter that she is ready to leave America in the name of what she described as “humanity.” “When you have a big family, you want them to have privacy, peace, safety,” she explained. “I have a house now to raise my children, but sometimes this place can be… that humanity I’ve found across the world is not what I grew up with here.”
Jolie also hinted at potential destinations, mentioning Cambodia as a place she admires and intends to spend time in. “I’ll spend a lot of time in Cambodia. I’ll spend time visiting my family members wherever they may be in the world,” she said.
She has a long-standing connection to Cambodia. In an interview with Vogue India, Jolie said, “Cambodia was the country that made me aware of refugees. It made me engage in foreign affairs in a way I never had before and led me to join UNHCR. Above all, it made me a mom.”
Jolie recounted how her experiences there inspired her adoption decisions. “In 2001, I was in a school program in Samlout, playing blocks on the floor with a little kid, and as clear as day I thought: ‘My son is here.’ A few months later, I met baby Mad at an orphanage. I can’t explain it—I’m not one to believe in messages or superstition—but it was just real and clear.”
