Charlie Puth hit with accusation while singing US national anthem at Super Bowl!

Posted on February 9, 2026 By Aga Co No Comments on Charlie Puth hit with accusation while singing US national anthem at Super Bowl!

Charlie Puth suddenly found himself at the center of an unexpected online storm after performing the U.S. national anthem ahead of this year’s Super Bowl—a moment usually treated with both reverence and intense scrutiny. Chosen to deliver “The Star-Spangled Banner” before kickoff, Puth stepped onto the field carrying the immense weight of expectation that comes with one of the most high-profile musical moments in American sports. His performance was precise, controlled, and emotionally restrained—the very qualities that normally earn praise. Instead, they sparked suspicion.

This year’s Super Bowl at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, was already mired in debate before the first whistle. With the New England Patriots facing the Seattle Seahawks, attention was split between the game itself and the surrounding spectacle. Music choices in particular had provoked strong reactions. Bad Bunny’s halftime performance sharply divided viewers, while Green Day’s pre-game set prompted speculation that the band was making a subtle political statement with their rendition of “American Idiot.”

Against this charged backdrop, Charlie Puth took the stage. At 34, he is no stranger to large audiences or live television, and his résumé suggested he was a safe, technically reliable choice. Following Green Day, he delivered a stripped-down, traditional performance of the anthem, prioritizing clarity and vocal precision over showmanship. On paper, it was exactly what the moment demanded.

Almost immediately, however, portions of the online audience began questioning whether the performance was truly live. Social media filled with posts suggesting it sounded “too perfect” to be genuine. Viewers dissected every phrase, breath, and mic movement, with some concluding that Puth must have been lip-syncing to a pre-recorded track.

One post on X captured the prevailing tone: the user wrote that the anthem “seemed like” it was being lip-synced, noting that not a single note faltered and the delivery lacked the imperfections typical of a live vocal. While not definitive, it reflected a broader skepticism that quickly spread across the platform.

Other reactions were far less charitable. Some commenters framed the alleged lip-syncing as disrespectful, insisting that the national anthem should always be performed live, no matter the pressure. One particularly blunt post accused Puth of turning an honor into something “embarrassing,” claiming pre-recording crossed a line that should never be touched.

As the conversation snowballed, accusations grew bolder. Several users insisted they had “never seen a more obvious” example of lip-syncing, claiming the performance carried all the hallmarks of a studio recording played over a live broadcast. Another viral remark joked that Puth was “lip-syncing for his life,” showing how quickly skepticism turned into mockery.

The intensity of the reaction highlighted just how unforgiving Super Bowl audiences can be, especially regarding tradition. Unlike halftime shows or pre-game concerts, the national anthem is often considered sacred. Performers are expected to balance artistry with restraint, patriotism with humility. Any perceived deviation—whether an unconventional arrangement or a technical shortcut—can trigger backlash.

Super Bowl anthem performances are notoriously challenging. Stadium acoustics, broadcast delays, and the sheer scale of the event have led many artists to rely on pre-recorded elements, especially instrumentals. In some cases, vocals are recorded in advance as a safety measure, even if the singer performs live over them. These industry practices, rarely explained to the public, often fuel misunderstanding when performances sound unusually flawless.

In Puth’s case, no official statement confirmed or denied the lip-syncing allegations. The NFL and broadcast partners also remained silent, as they typically do unless a controversy escalates beyond social media chatter. Without confirmation, the debate remained speculative, driven more by perception than proof.

Supporters defended Puth, arguing that vocal precision should not automatically imply dishonesty. They pointed out that he is known for pitch control and technical skill, traits that have defined his career since his early breakout. To them, the backlash said more about the internet’s suspicion of polish than about the performance itself.
